After several years of hard work, outstanding successes in the FIRST LEGO League competition and also many plans scrapped due to pandemic, our team Hexadron took part at the SESI FIRST® LEGO® LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL OPEN BRAZIL 2022. The tournament was held in Rio de Janeiro from 5 to 8 August 2022.

The hard work and thorough preparation paid off. In the final match of the tournament and also of the season, our robot has scored 660 points. It was the 7th best Robot Game performance of this world tournament. Also, we became the first non-brazilian team in the Robot Game overall ranking.

Another cool part of this event was the so-called “Alliance challenge”. Each team randomly draws a second team with whom they form an “alliance”. Together they play one robot game, so there are two robots on one table at the same time. Our team drew the Brazilian team Robobio, with whom we also got into closer contact and became friends. Even though we were given very little time to prepare, our teams were able to come together quickly and we formed one of the best alliances – we made it to the semi-finals!

The experience of competing at such a world event and with so many different teams was unforgettable and inspiring for all of our team members.

Apart from competition, we also have a lot of memories from visiting the city. We have seen great views from the Sugarloaf mountain (Pão de Açúcar) and Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor). We have visited the Botanical Garden (Jardim Botânico) and the Escadaria Selarón. And most importantly, even though it was a winter season in Brazil, we have been swimming and enjoying the waves of the Ipanema and Copacabana beach!
